Our Brand Diversity from Bielefeld: Tradition meets Innovation

Everyone knows  our strong brands from Bielefeld, made famous by memorable TV commercials and striking campaigns such as “Thank you, Lino” and “Doping for your hair”. Whether in pharmacies or drugstores, our brands Alpecin, ALCINA, Plantur, KAREX, Linola, Bioniq®, and Vagisan have become indispensable problem-solvers in everyday life.

We are a fourth-generation family business based in Bielefeld, employing over 900 people all over the world. The name “Dr. Wolff” represents two companies: Dr. Kurt Wolff and Dr. August Wolff, both named after their founders.

Dr. Kurt Wolff is synonymous with scientific hair care and innovative oral care, renowned for pioneering brands such as Alpecin, Bioniq®, KAREX, and Plantur. The group also includes ALCINA, which provides professional hair care, styling, and decorative cosmetics for hairdressers.

Dr. August Wolff focuses on dermatological and gynecological pharmaceuticals, as well as medical and cosmetic products. Its brands, Vagisan and Linola, are widely recognized for improving quality of life.

Amidst large multinational corporations, we see ourselves as the “Gauls of East Westphalia”—defined by our independence and our willingness to forge new paths. For over 120 years, we have remained true to these values.

Dr. Wolff, or in other words: breaking taboos in Bielefeld

Hair loss, neurodermatitis, vaginal dryness or caries are topics that others do not like to talk about, but we do! The problem solving products from our Bielefeld-based research department are a releave all over the world as we are active in more than 60 countries. Markets and locations

From Bielefeld to the world: our products are produced and distributed in Bielefeld. Here we work from a total of three locations: in Johanneswerkstraße, in Sudbrackstraße and Stadtheiderstraße. From here, creams, shampoos and pastes find their way across various national borders.

In 2013 and 2016, Dr. Wolff opened its own offices in Asia. First in Singapore, where ten employees work today, and in 2016 also in Shanghai to serve the Chinese market. Eduard R. Dörrenberg himself lived in Singapore for a while to personally drive the growth in Asia.

Due to cultural conditions, the Asian market offers great potential. In particular, full male hair is considered a status symbol of strength. In addition, there is great confidence in German products. Accordingly, not only the slogan “German Engineering for Your Hair” but also the product quality of Alpecin caffeine shampoos is well received by Asians. The brands Plantur, Linola, Vagisan and Bioniq®  were successively launched in Asia, too.
